The nice people from Ligne Roset delivered my new Smala sofa (design by Pascal Mourgue) today. I will be living on water and bread for the next week, but I will be sitting comfortably while doing it...

Woke at 11 and was at work at 1230. A bit tired. At Berliner Alle we were told to leave the strassenbahn, since there had been an accident at the Rheinstrasse. It turned out, that the strassenbahn number 9 just before the one I was in, had been hit by, or had hit, a truck, in the intersection just outside the Maritim Hotel! The train and the truck and several other cars were damaged and spread all over the street. Didn't see any injured people, though.

Flew from Fort de France at 1800 last evening, arrived at Orly 0700 CET. Took the Paris Metro to CDG, from where I flew at 1100. Waited for a couple of hours in Frankfurt for my luggage, and was home at around 15.

From Union Island, Tobago Cays and around, and now we have started the returntrip to Martinique, from which we will fly to Europe the 20th. No serious sun burns, no one has been bitten by sharks, and we no longer get sea sick (in fact, that was only the first two days). The local beer is acceptable, and they make nice pina coladas. The prices are tourist prices - fx 4 EC for a beer, except for the bigger islands, like Sct Vincent, where prices are lower and suited for local people.

N 12 DEG 35.751' W 61 DEG 25.026'. 27 C and very blue sea. You go find it on the map yourself ;-)
Finished Ian McEwan's Atonement yesterday. Started on Robert Pirsig's Zen and the art of motor cycle maintenance. I'm sorry that I have not read it before - I know I should have.

Martinique
Weather is nice, 25 during the night and 27 during the day. The water is wet, the boat is white, and people very friendly. Will cruise further south towards Grenada, and then back again to Martinique, from where I'll be back in Germany around the 21st of January. Stay tuned.

I know that I don't often write about what I do at work. This is an exception. Because I'm on leave for the next two weeks, I had quite a few things to finish by today. I have delivered an early version of the Systems Operations Manual for the new external FTP server in ESOC, Service Integration Requests for activating the DNSBL functionality to the external mail gateways in ESRIN - and proper Systems Operations and Service Desk Manuals for ITOps and Servdesk, a SIR for configuring the new SMTP servers in VILSPA and cleaning up DNS MX records for all Agency mail servers, and I have had ITops make entries in the virtusertables and mailertables on the internal mail relays to relay email for certain volunteers to be routed via my sendmail+libmilter+MIMEDefang+SpamAssassin test-box.
Will be popping in tomorrow and Sunday to finish up the last things and make sure that my tests behave properly.
I also need to find a place where they sell sun lotion and swim trunks.

Went to BBBank at Rheinstrasse and bought a travel insurance for 8 EUR. Got myself a new haircut at the Bahnhof Galleria (19 EUR).

Slept till 11 and went to work. Very quiet outside. I remember last year, where Amagerbrogade looked like something after World War III. Darmstadt looks quite nice, the weather is mild and daylight is visible. The trams don't run, so I walked to Central Station and bought 2 choko crossaints and 1 apfletasche for breakfast.
